The success story of the opera The Exterminating Angel by Thomas Adès, which had its world premiere at the Salzburg Festival, continues. After brilliant reviews in Salzburg and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London, the work won the Opera Award in the category “World Premiere” in May 2017.

After winning the Opera Award, Thomas Adès said: “Salzburg was the ideal cradle for my baby! I had weeks to rehearse under optimal conditions and with the best singers on the original stage of the Haus für Mozart.”
Now the production has taken the leap across the ocean, celebrating its premiere at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

“Especially for today’s composers, it is important not to be performed only once. This co-production of the Festival with three other major opera houses gives Thomas Adès the attention his work deserves,” says Festival President Helga Rabl-Stadler.
The Exterminating Angel is a co-production with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the Kongelige Opera in Copenhagen, where the opera will be performed starting on 23 March 2018. (After Press Release).
